I'm gonna switch now to a method i use often when dealing with Laker Krishnas.
Here is a response to you from Joe V.

Quote
Gasol was on the market for quite a while before that.  And it was Kobe's threats BEFORE the season that made it impending that the team listen during the season.  And most folks who live OUTSIDE of LA tend to think that the deal was INCREDIBLY one-sided to the point of ridiculous.  There's not a single person ANYWHERE that WOULDN'T have made that deal if they were LA....bunch of scrubs for an All-Star big man.  Yes, it happened when Bynum went down, but that deal was absolutely brain-dead for LA.  It's not like they went after Brendan Haywood or Samuel Dalembert or a warm body.  Chicago and others were in the market for Gasol, and it has been pointed out that other discussions for more value were out there at the time he was dealt.

There will be more.  ;)

Will be more of what?  You dancing around a point?

'Bunch of scrubs for an all star'  What scrub has a 20 point 13 rebounds 3 block 4 assist game in the playoffs?  Coming off a double double the last series and a hell of a defensive number on Tim Duncan the round before.  Everyone saying it was nothing for everything is exactly why I made this thread.  Maybe you can use your own words instead of copy and pasting someone else said.  We all know had Blair or Fabs posted this same stat line you would be pissing yourself with glee.

Or better yet, you can answer the question that this topic is about instead of trying to steer it off course.  I know with Manu fishing so early you are a bit thrown off with this extra time you have now but use it wisely and form your own thoughts.

Rrrright.  They traded Pao Gasol so they could go after a guy like Zach Randolph.  ;)
"Warehouse."

Anywho Gasol looked pretty good at times vs Spurs.
Course when a frontline D that consists of Matty Bonner at the PF it's not too hard to look pretty good.

You need cap space/money in order to sign players like Zach Randolph.  He  makes 16 million a year which is not small bananas .  They had a number of contracts that they moved and expired prior to getting him, 9 million of which came off the books when they decided not to resign Kwame after the 08 season.  They traded Pau Gasol to get an expiring contract (to make moves) and for a young prospect 7 footer.  Marc Gasol is shaping up to be a solid big man (nothing too crazy) and the Grizz were able to make moves to land other players which have put them in a very good position this year.  They could upset the Thunder just the same and make it to the Western Conference finals.   Again, while that trade favored the Lakers like I said the Grizz made the trade for further down the line and the Lakers for right now while Kobe was still able to play at a high level.

One might even argue that Marc Gasol is going to end up being a much better defender than his brother.  I don't think Pau Gasol would have been able to guard Duncan that well for a whole series.

Oh Matt Bonner as opposed to Fabs or Nazr Mohammed?  ::)

EDIT:  Game 1 upset of Thunder....Marc Gasol - 20 points 13 rebounds 4 assists 3 blocks on 9 for 11 shooting.  Continue to dance around the fact that the trade was for an expiring contract and Marc Gasol.

Greggor Pop can make another teams two bigs look very good.
Along with good shots, every prayer ZBo threw up fell in.

But yes i say trade Mark Gasol for Pao Gasol straight across.

Except the trade wasn't for Marc Gasol and Pau Gasol straight across.  It was for an expiring contract so they could clear money to go after guys like Zach Randolph and for a young 7 foot prospect in Marc Gasol.  After the number they did on Duncan this series is looks to me like maybe that trade, while favoring the Lakers, wasn't as one sided as some wanted to make it around here.

Hay if you can't blame the refs or a conspiracy theory involving a big market tv deal with Sternfish why not just blame the coach of the team you probably won't be rooting for in the coming years!

They are going down

Who the Spurs?  ;D

Marc Gasol put together another solid playoff  performance  with 12 points 13 rebounds with 5 on the offensive glass, and 2 blocks and in a close out game none the less.

Just a few stats:

Currently holding Tim Duncan to his lowest point total in a series for his entire career (12.8)

Has shown he can score (25 in game 1) and rebound with the best of em (17 in game 2)

Is a major factor, along with Zach Randolph, as to why the Grizz are getting ready to pull off a one of the biggest upsets in NBA history.

Still considered a scrub?

Hey 'Ro what up.
Vancil and koast are amoungst the decieved who thought Greg Poppycocks use of Matty Bonner was a wise move and he would be proved right in the playoffs.

WTF are you talking about?  I haven't made any comments about Matt Bonner or how Popavich chooses to use him.  You on the other hand are the king of over rating marginal Spurs players.

I come back only to realize I why I stopped posting on the regular in the first place.

Theres a ton of just Laker ones I have....Horry's 3 after the tip out, Fish's .4, that streak the Lakers had in the playoffs 15-1

One that sticks out is Michael Jordan's hand switch lay up over the Lakers in the Finals.

5 loses in a row, only 2 games up on the Lakers for the #1 seed.

I think with losing that many games heading into the playoffs the dream turned into a nightmare.

I don't understand the appeal of LA when it comes to putting a *third* team there.

The Lakers already rule the entire REGION, not just the city, and a third team would simply saturate the market.

The Kings aren't a good team, and as Koast points out, would have to fight the Clippers for what few non-Laker fans there are.

What's the deal with this move?  Why would Stern allow it?

Let me just play the other side for a minute here....tho we are on the same page for the most part, outside of my lazy desire to drive 2 miles from work to see pro basketball  ;D we fully agree.

As far as Los Angeles and Orange County residents are concerned, we don't like to drive to each others 'area'.  People from LA don't like to come down to Orange County if they don't have to and those of us in Orange County don't like to go up to LA if we don't have to.  I wouldn't call it resentment or hate from either area but we live where we live.  The LA people think OC is boring and too 'cookie cutter' and people in OC hate the LA traffic and think its 'dirty'.  So to have a team in Orange County and one in LA, isn't all that crazy of an idea.  There is close to 4 million people living in Orange County currently with another large chunk of 'tourists' who come to the area for Disneyland, the beach, and Surf City USA.

The NBA has wanted a team to go up into Orange County for a while now because it is still a 4 million person market.  God knows how many people have tried to convince the Clippers to move to Anaheim, play at the Honda Center, yet still be a 'Los Angeles' team in name.  It seems like just about every couple of years the idea gets flirted with where the Clippers will play a few home games up here or someone will mention the idea of them becoming the Orange County team.

To my knowledge the other owners have the power to block it but Stern does not directly.  I could be wrong but I think that is how this works.  The league has input but the owners are the deciding factor via votes.

Anaheim city council is voting on a 75 million dollar bond measure to upgrade the Honda Center to NBA standards and to help the Maloofs with relocation costs.

The Lakers and Clippers are currently trying to block the deal via the rest of the NBA owners.  The Clippers because they don't want to fight with the Royals for the rest of the non-Laker fans in the area.  The Lakers, who just signed a 3 billion dollar TV deal (no joke), apparently could have 10% of that taken away if another team makes it into the market.

City Of Sacramento is trying to block is because apparently the Kings owe the city money as well.

What was up last night? wow.

They cut some kind of deal where they wouldn't go out of their way to fine him if Orlando management talked to him.  They did and he shut up.

David Stern only wants praise for growing the league and doesn't want any negative comments about him anywhere.  He'll pat himself on the back for the growth but doesn't want any blame for letting the league leak money.  This seems like one of those situations again.

I am praying to the basketball gods that he is finally realizing that rebounding and defending the paint is more important than scoring points.  Not just for the team but for himself as a player.  When he grabs 18 rebounds and blocks 4 shots in a game it is more impressive than him getting the 10-15 points but he never saw that.  He was going down Shaq Lane with the idea he needed to score 30 points and the rebounding/defending was secondary.

The guy is a good big man if he can stay healthy and focused.  I think he has taken a lot of flack on this board from just about everyone and I am hoping if he plays this way through out the playoffs he will finally turn those people around.  Of course it is hard to give him the benefit of the doubt because he really is so inconsistent both due to injury and his own mental break downs.

The Lakers will always be my #1 team but I work just a hare over two miles away from both Anaheim stadiums.

A "hare"? Got Easter bunny on the brain or am I becoming "Dan light"?

I am one easter bunny away from The Pond / Angel Stadium.  A hip, a hop, and a jump away  ;)

Granted I don't think it is a good idea to have three teams in Southern California when it comes to basketball.  Especially with the overwhelming popularity of the Lakers but I can't help but be self centered and think how awesome this would be for me.
