Philadelphia 76ers / New combo toto/GM fantasy league starting soon

Here is his blog on it: http://www.libertyballers.com/2009/8/16/991603/become-an-nba-gm-via-paspn

This is a PAPN fantasy league, where you pick a team and then make trades and signings using the C.B.A.  Then when the season starts its plays like a head to head fantasy league where you use your top 8 players each week.

Never heard of this before, but it sounds good (and is free.)  We are trying to find 30 Sixer fans so that we can have a full league.  Its supposed to start 8/19, but it will probably be shifted back.  It starts early so there can be lots of trades before the season starts.

Philadelphia 76ers / Is this team cursed, and why?
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:24:22 PM »
Is it the curse of Andre Miller?  The Clipper curse?

Drawn to .500 and destined to find new and exciting ways to lose in the closing moments?

"I haven't even peaked yet," Iguodala said. "It's going to be crazy."

Glad to see he does not lack for confidence.  I hope he goes out and proves us all wrong for saying he's not a "#1."  Personally, I still have my doubts, but still a fan.

Philadelphia 76ers / Deadline thread

Not expecting much (Rush for "future considerations?")

Anyone actualy expecting a big trade?

SF runors:

1.  Miller/Evans for Lafrenz/Sergio/Outlaw

2.  Sam/WG/pick for Tyson/Butler

#1 leaves the Sixers w/o a starting PG.
#2 won't happen unless Sam waives his trade kicker.

Philadelphia 76ers / 76ers v Grizz

Will be watching after work on my DVR.

Interested to see the matc-up against Mayo.  The Sixers have a lot of defenders to throw at him.

Want to see a game where the starters and bench both play well.  Last game only Thad and Speights could shoot, although Iguodala had his typical excellent floor game.

My only worry is foul trouble for Thad and Speights limitting their effectiveness.

Also looking for a breakout game for Lou with Lowry out.  Hope he is meeting with Price over the All Star break.

Philadelphia 76ers / V. DWade/Heat

Who will be guarding DWade, and what do you expect from him?

Will Speights start earning more minutes.  More than Evans?

Will Thad bust out of his shooting slump?

Philadelphia 76ers / Thank You and may I have another...

Is this payback for the Wold Series?  The Sixers and Eagles have brough losing in the most excruciating way possible to a new level.

I can't wait to see how they loose next. Maybe as they go to put in  the winning lay-up the building just implodes on everyone costing them the game- at least that might put the fans and the team out of its misery...

In other news, Brands manzier was no enough to keep his shoulder right.  This is not my professional opinion, but I have a hunch he is soon to be shut down for the season.  Miller will be gone soon after.

And lastly, the golden boy Young finally is drawing ire.  Not sure if its for his lousy shooting, defense or maybe his ONE REBOUND in 37 minutes at PF?  I think he needs to return to SF ASAP and starting taking opposing SFs in the post.

Exciting comeback, but man I don't think I can take much mire of these horrible endings.  I could just rent Titanic- at least then I'd know how its going to end.

Philadelphia 76ers / Line-up (Brand re-integration)
« on: January 26, 2009, 05:01:32 PM »
Should be an interesting month running up to the trade deadline.  Its Brand/Sixers 2.0 (or would this be 1.5?)

There is the question of the starting line-up, and then the rotations later in the game.

Should Brand play more PF or C?
Should Thad/Iguodala be on the floor more as PF/SF or SF/SG?
Can we eliminate the bulk of WG's minutes?
How to maximize Speights Minutes/progression?

This is from http://www.depressedfan.com/basketball/sixers/the-ablatross.php :

    *  Per 48 minutes when Iggy and Thad are on the floor together, the Sixers outscore their opponents by 6.31 points.
    * Per 48 minutes when Iggy and Thad are not on the floor together, their opponents outscore them by 17.56 points.

Those are some unbelievable numbers...

Philadelphia 76ers / Iguodala the best?
« on: January 13, 2009, 10:58:56 PM »
I was checking out this site: http://basketballvalue.com/index.php
There is a link to it on the phillyarena.com home page.

Apparently Iguodala has the best adjusted +/- in the NBA ovver the last 2 seasons.  The names right behind him: Lebron, CP3, Garnet, DWade and Nash.  The top three lead the pack by a considerable margin.

I assume this indicates Iguodala has been the most important player to his teams success over the last 2 seasons.  Maybe someone can explain this better?

Philadelphia 76ers / Seventy Sixers v Trailblazers
« on: January 13, 2009, 10:36:17 PM »
Should be an interesting match-up.  No Roy, and the Sixers streaking so I give them an even shot at winning.

Who will get more fouls per minute, Speights or Oden?  One averages 5.6 fouls per 36 min, the other 6.0.  Also, Speights averages slightly more Blocks per 36 than Oden.  That doesn't sound right.  t sounds lke Oden is taking a while to get a feel for the NBA game.

Overall, these next few weeks should be interesting seeing if the team can stay hot and work Brand back in to the line-up.  Maybe the second time will be the charm?

Philadelphia 76ers / Sixers/Atl post game. Sixers playing better ball
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:44:58 PM »
Really solid win.  I watched it on the DVR, and I agree that it was the icing on the cake.  A few observations:

-The team looked exactly like they did down the stretch last year.  They now just have to do it with Brand in the line-up.  They look to be starting their Spring run a month early.

-For much of the game Andre Miller was the best player on the floor.  Not just controlling the game on offense, but he played solid D of JJ.  How out of shape was he earlier in the season, because he is a different guy out there right now.  I wonder if maybe he can even mesh better with Brand now that he is back in form- but that may be asking too much.

-Speights.  Every night he makes a play or two that makes me jump out of my seat.  I think I am more excited about Speights right now than I was about Thad at this time last season- and that's saying something.  Young still probably has more upside, but Speights looks like he is a player.  If he gets bigger and stronger he might approach some of the things Amare does- and I don't think I'm being biased.

-Evans and Ivey 'efforting.'  They really cut down on their negatives.  They combined for 5-5 from 3pt and FT's.  Combined +23.  As much as a normaly hate to watch those guys, they really played well today.
