Philadelphia 76ers / NBA Summer league (1-0)
« on: July 06, 2010, 08:50:45 AM »
Can't take too much admittedly from the summer league, but glad we got the win.  Jrue Holiday was amazing as ever, Meeks played well and Turner contributed.  Hope to see more of the same today.

He shot a "career" high 43 percent, his career percentage is 41 percent and as for Lou Williams:

Lou Williams shot "39.8" rounding up to 40 percent.

Here's the thing: Lou gets to the line and/or makes the occassional 3.

Willie Green is terrible, he's the Anti Jamal Crawford. Whereas Crawford can get hot and can make a difference, Green chucks to be decent.

Green is terrible, awful. As a 2 guard, and as a one is a joke that only YOU consider.

At least Lou either makes them or goes to the free throw line.

How many 2-8, 0 assist statlines can you stand?

Willie Green, half the time or more is a terrible player that should be relegated to the bench.

Let me put it this way: Jrue Holiday, right now is a better player then Willie Green. Because that ain't saying much.

And Willie Green has, with the exception of 2004 failed to show those qualities.

Willie Green is a chucker, and a terrible shooter at that. Willie at the PG is a disaster waiting to happen.

Lou has shown he can make some plays.   Luckily, with Brand, Iggy, Thad ahead of him Lou doesn't have to do too much.

Lou will be fine, alot better then that chucker.

You can't take Happ out of the Rotation.  You can't take a 10 Win guy and put that in the bullpen. Same reason we demoted Moyer for Martinez.  Happ's too good to take outta the rotation.

So, who do we go to in the Ninth Inning for a save?

Jamie Moyer.

Guy's a veteran, he's won games, he's seen different things.  He's  the  best possible option for  a closer right now.

You can't say your willing to put Moyer in the bullpen but not designate a position for him.

Jamie Moyer: Your new 2009 closer.

Long time, long time.  Now I vastly disagree with you here: Willie Green should not only NOT start at PG. I'd perfer him not starting at all period.  Willie Green has 3 things I hate about him

1)He's a TERRIBLE defender and I mean terrible.  When your losing games, it's because of a combination of two things: Your offense ain't good enough and your allowing more points then you can score.  I remember the Dallas and Denver games in particular. In both instances, when Lou came in we got back in the game.

Lou may not have been consistent offensively last year, but he was far better then Willie Green defensively. Green was and is just putrid.

2)He brings NOTHING else to the table.

Yes, those isolation shots at the end of games aren't good shots Ricky. But you've got to love the fact that Iguodala can rebound the ball, he can create plays for others.   Willie Green brings NONE of that. Maybe he did, once upon a time(The 04-05 season) but such a time has obviously passed us.  He can't pass,  he can't defend, he's not a ball hawk, he doesn't grab those floor boards.

3)He's a low level FG percentage shooter.

This is what I hate the MOST about Willie Green.  If Willie's hot, he's decent.(Barely, the ball will go through him like Zach Randolph), if he's not. He misses shots, he puts us behind. It's like Andre Miller and his shot happy self.

For all the above reasons. HELL NO to Willie Green.

As pointed out on the RealGM fourms: Maynor made more 3's(He attempted more).  Both aren't good shooters. They are more or less the same players. Low ceilings.

Just checked the Wolves fourm. It seems like the rumor came out of Draft Express. Chad Ford also said the Wolves like Jennings there, but very slightly. I'm guessing if Harden/Derozen/Rubio are all off the board.

IMO, Rubio will fall to #5 and end the discussion.  Memphis should select PF Jordan Hill. They got their center in Marc Gasol.

My top 5:
Griffin
Hill
Thabett
Flynn(Kings love him)
Rubio

Brandon Jennings:
-Has Supreme athleticism. The Kenny Anderson comparisons are all wrong. Dude reminds me of Chris Paul if he puts it all together. He bulldozes to the rim hard.  Excellent passer. And it's not that his jumpshot is horrible(Whereas Rubio has an Andre Miller-esque shot). Like Iguodala, he just needs to work on it.

-Excellent passer, playmaker.  If Jennings can just remember that these guys been in the NBA before him, and that he should take it in and listen. I have no doubt he can make the Thad Young-ish leap and probably start the 2nd half of the season.

-Nice defensive player: He has excellent technique from the videos I've seen. Uses his body and his hands well. Plays the passing lanes but is also so quick, he can rotate back to his man. Jennings can cover most of the perimeter area.

Overall:Give him a season or two(and ultimately: This team's a season or two away), and he'll be the best PG in the draft no question. He'll be up there with Paul.

You don't lose that for Eric Maynor and Ty Lawson LMAO. Especially Lawson, what a terrible NBA pro he will be. Quick yes, but he's not a real good shooter and  his defense is horrible to begin with. But at 5'11, he'll be abused all night. Next Chucky Atkins.

When I first joined RealGM, I was treated to a poster who was both intelligent and had uncanny humor. RickyPryor was one of my favorite posters on the board and it is so nice to see you again, my dear friend.  For those whom may not know or come to understand said humor. Ricky once made a post that I'll never forget: About Sam's being a Haitian and how it could correspond to him sucking.  It was humorous and accurate. Would Sam possibly have a basketball IQ if he was born in the USA and played basketball all his life instead of his late teens?

Nobody knows, but that post was truly epic.  I've come to enjoy Ricky and the humor and the depth of basketball knowledge he provided.  I myself, was disgusted with Maurice Cheeks. So it didn't come as a surprise when in the 3rd game of the season Ricky blasted Cheeks and provided the RealGM fourms with the knowledge we'd come to know: That Cheeks had NO substitution pattern to speak of. Never mind a game plan, offensively or defensively.

Cheeks did this thing in the pre-season with a press/trap defense. We never saw it since, to my dissapointment. We had the roster to play such a defense.

I'd like to state I disagree with him on Thaddeus Young. Could Young have done better defensively this season? Yes. But he switched from the 3 back to the 4. So I imagine it's gotta be tough, between deciding to guard the perimeter player or to crash the boards. He's done a pretty nice job of it, averaging a respectable 5 RPG though I'd like to see it get up to 7.

And more importantly, the GOOD that Thad Young has shown. I'm sure you agree with me when I say Thad Young is the best fundamental scorer we have outside of Andre Miller. He can post it up, he can take it to people and he can shoot the 3. When he was averaging 20/5 in March, he was ALL OVER the place offensively. He was becoming a go-to-guy.

Iggy/Thad/Brand is our Fab 3.  If Iggy improves on his shot and our PG next season is a respectable shooter/defender. I have to disagree with you on another thing:

We can handle Boston/CLE in a series.

Out of that group I'd want:

Jennings, Holiday, Teague in that order.

We need talent and playmaking. We need more talent.

Yeah, Jennings has question marks. But he also has huge upside.  And if all you need to do is bring the ball up, Jennings can do that.
