I think it will be Brown for a couple of years.  He may just do the GM thing

I'd prefer Thobodeau.  Second choice would be eSnow.  He has a more firey personality than McKie and he understands both sides of the ball.  He also is familiar with the city.  He or Brown would do wonders for Jrue.

Maunel feeling any heat?  I dont mean nec as in replaced, but i mean the slacker no one covering 3rd base play and subsequent pitching to ARod with a base open.

I've heard the Philly fans are torching him but are any of you witnesses?

He had a rough World Series but he has plenty enough juice from last year and getting to the there this year where that will fade quickly.  People just need something to vent with right now.  I am avoiding the Philly sports media till after Sunday to keep from getting to bummed out.

Pettite's stuff would run counter to him slobbering up the ball.  As we saw last night he thinks out loud about what he wants to throw and is just covering his mouth.  I still don't understand how he beat us twice.  At this point he is not that great a pitcher and we took too many fastballs right down the middle last night.  Oh well there is always next year.  Go Sixers, Ealges and Flyers!!!

Philadelphia 76ers / Phils off season

Well, I can't listen to sports radio or watch any of the sports stations today.  So we might as well figure out how the Phils can grab 2 out of 3.

Should the Phillies go all in and make a play for Halliday now?  Something like Hamels, Werth, D. Brown for Halliday and Wells?  I think Wells will return to form with a fresh start and hitting at the Bank.  It gives Toronto some good players with a big salary cut.  If Wells doesn't work out you have Taylor as a plan B.  Though swapping Hamels for Halliday makes you older it fixes the overly Left handed look of the rotation.  Or do you bank on Hamels bouncing back with a chip on his shoulder and a return to '08 form?

The bull pen obviously needs some shoring up though I think you are stuck with Lidge due to his contract.  Hopefully he can come back strong and healthy healthy next season.  You get JC Romero back, but I don't trust Madson even a little bit.

They also need to improve the bench.  Probably need to start from scratch.  A few veterans and a few of the kids maybe?

Yes, they started off ok then got out of synch by one of the poorest examples of officiating ever but then got it together in the second half.  The Bucks looked better than I expected.

Would you trade Dalembert for another bad contract and a young prospect if the opportunity presented itself?

In a heartbeat

Pedro Feliz Itis is a terrible disease and only one thing can cure it and it's not more cowbell

More Cowbell cures everything.

Agree 100% on winning the division.  I agree you have to take the whole season into account but that's pretty good if he finishes out well.  If Howard was going down hill I would see him limping through September, not dominating the league.

Oops he did it again....:)

I think Milwaukee did what many investors are doing.  PANIC PANIC PANIC!  Ryan Howard did it again!  I am a big fan of Bill James et al.  Isn't a HR the best thing that can happen during an at bat?  RBI's are a two way street.  You need someone to get on base and someone to knock them home.

And if you're saying that Ryan Howard has regressed, how does that fall against upper management, and not in the purview of the coaches?

Again, I'm pointing at the roster wide piss poor plate appearance that seems to have coincided with the signing of another mediocre BS 3rd baseman who thinks walks are a disease.

I don't hold Manuel responsible for Howards poor plate approach, because he should know better, and if the whole contract thing got in his head (which it probably did) that ain't Manuel's fault either.

I would have agreed with you on Howard before his torrid September, but if the Phillies win the NL East he needs to be the MVP.  He is the best power hitter in the game and has become Mr. September.  Poor approach at the plate has been going on much longer than this year and IMHO is absolutely the Manager's issue.  I guess we just disagree.  But it drives me crazy also.

Are you thinking of McKie?  Or has your green sarcasm bulb burnt out   :)?  I am surprised Brand hasn't snatched it up.

Time for the Phillies to run with the success and ...

Not sure I would put it that way...:)  But I am with you.  btw if the Phillies don't make the playoffs shouldn't they fire Charlie?

I'm watching the US vs. Australia right now and I have to say.... I think this team can be beat. What I'm seeing out of this team in this game is our players falling into the same trap that they fell into 4 years ago. They seem to be worried a lot more about the "oooooohhhs" and "aaaaahhhhhs" of the crowd rather than playing actual basketball. On any given possession the ball might get passed twice before someone tries to go 1 on 3 which results in WAY too many turnovers.

The team better get it's head on straight.

It has to be tough to get motivated for the last tune up game.  They are looking to start the real thing

I have to go with Skates on this one.  Smith and a 1st rounder is too much for Williams.
